imessage-mcp (adelaidasofia)

Open-source, macOS-only MCP server for Claude Code that reads and searches Messages history, transcribes voice notes, exports chats to Obsidian and sends texts after a confirm step.

Overview

imessage-mcp by Adelaida Diaz-Roa is an MIT-licensed MCP server for Claude Code that runs only on macOS (github.com/adelaidasofia/imessage-mcp). It reads chat.db read-only, sends through Messages.app with AppleScript and exports each chat to an Obsidian vault. It installs as a Claude Code plugin. The only release is v0.1.0 (May 2026); the last code fix was in September 2026 and the latest commit, a dependency bump, is from 22 October 2026.

Key features

  • Tools to list chats, read messages and threads, get unread messages, search contacts, list attachments and mark a chat read
  • Full-text search through a local SQLite FTS5 index
  • Voice-note transcription with a local Whisper model
  • Two-step sending: send_message stages a draft and confirm_send sends it, as text only, by iMessage or SMS, to a contact or an existing group chat
  • Scheduled vault export through launchd; one anonymous install ping unless MYCELIUM_NO_PING=1

Pricing

Free software. It needs a Mac signed in to Messages, Full Disk Access, Python 3.11 or later and uv; transcription needs whisper-cpp.

How it compares to Linq

Linq is a managed API with its own numbers, webhooks, SDKs and iMessage features such as tapbacks and typing indicators, free for 20 contacts and $260 a month for Pro. This server is free and uses your own Apple ID, but it has no webhooks or REST API and sends text only, with no attachments, tapbacks or typing indicators.

Best for

Claude Code users who keep notes in Obsidian and want to search and archive their own Messages.
