httpSMS turns an Android phone into an SMS gateway. Your code calls an HTTP API, and the httpSMS Android app sends the message from the phone's SIM; texts the phone receives are forwarded to your webhook. It runs hosted at httpsms.com or on your own server with Docker. The code is AGPL-3.0 at github.com/NdoleStudio/httpsms, which has about 6,000 stars and commits in October 2026.
Self-hosting is free; it needs Firebase, an SMTP service, Cloudflare Turnstile and an Android phone with a SIM plan. The hosted service has a Free plan with 200 SMS a month, Pro at $10 a month or $100 a year for 5,000 SMS a month, and larger plans from $20 a month for 10,000 up to $350 a month for 200,000.
httpSMS has no iMessage or RCS. It sends SMS and MMS from your own phone number and can be self-hosted. Linq is a managed service for iMessage, RCS and SMS from $260 a month on Pro, and cannot be self-hosted.
