iMessage Max is an MIT-licensed MCP server for iMessage by cyberpapiii (github.com/cyberpapiii/imessage-max), written in Swift as a single binary. It reads the Messages database on your Mac, resolves phone numbers to names through Contacts and sends through Messages.app automation. It installs through Homebrew or a source build and needs macOS 15 or later. The latest release is v1.8.0 (October 12, 2026).
Free, open-source software. It needs a Mac on macOS 15 or later that is signed in to iMessage.
Linq is a managed API with its own phone numbers, iMessage, RCS and SMS, webhooks, SDKs and sending of tapbacks, typing indicators and effects, with a free Hobby plan (20 contacts) and Pro from $260 a month. iMessage Max is free and runs under your own Apple ID on your Mac. It is used from MCP clients rather than a REST API, cannot send tapbacks, edits or unsends, and has no webhooks.
People who want an AI assistant to search, summarize and answer their own iMessages on a Mac.
iMessage Max supports 21 of the 77 features compared on Linq Alternatives.
