SMS Gateway for Android, also called SMSGate, is an Android app by Aleksandr Soloshenko that lets you send and receive SMS through the phone by API. It runs in three modes: a local server on the phone itself, a free public cloud server, or a private server you host. The app and server are Apache-2.0 at github.com/capcom6/android-sms-gateway and github.com/android-sms-gateway/server, with release v1.77.4 in October 2026.
The software is free. Local and private servers have no limits; you supply the phones, SIM plans and, for private mode, a server. The public cloud server is free, with limits applied only to accounts that affect other users, and the docs ask users to contact support above 10,000 messages a day. The docs say paid tiers may come for new cloud users.
SMS Gateway for Android has no iMessage or RCS. It sends SMS and MMS from your own phones and numbers at no software cost. Linq is a managed service for iMessage, RCS and SMS from $260 a month on Pro, and cannot be self-hosted.
