mautrix-gmessages is a Matrix puppeting bridge for Google Messages, written in Go and licensed under AGPL-3.0 (github.com/mautrix/gmessages). It pairs with the Google Messages app on a phone and turns its SMS, MMS and RCS chats into Matrix rooms, so Matrix clients and bots can read and reply. All messages pass through the phone, which has to stay online. Releases ship monthly; the latest is v26.10 (October 16, 2026).
The software is free. You run it yourself next to a Matrix homeserver that supports application services (for example Synapse) and a PostgreSQL database, and you need a phone with Google Messages that stays connected. Login uses your Google account. The docs point to Beeper for fully managed instances.
Linq sells a managed API with its own phone numbers, iMessage, RCS and SMS, signed webhooks and SDKs, with a free Hobby plan (20 contacts) and Pro from $260 a month. mautrix-gmessages has no iMessage, provides no numbers and has no messaging REST API or webhooks: your code talks to Matrix instead. It is free and self-hosted, while Linq is a fully managed service.
