iMessage MCP (tszaks)

Open-source MCP server for macOS that lets agents in Claude Code, Codex or Claude Desktop read and search Messages, view photos and send texts or tapbacks behind a confirm flag.

Overview

iMessage MCP by tszaks is an MIT-licensed MCP server (github.com/tszaks/imessage-mcp) that runs on your Mac over stdio for Claude Code, Codex and Claude Desktop. It reads chat.db, decoding the attributedBody column where recent macOS keeps most message text, and sends through Messages.app with AppleScript. It runs from a clone, not npm. The latest release is v1.5.1 (June 2026); the last commit, to the docs, is from 24 October 2026.

Key features

  • Read and search messages, open threads and look up contacts
  • get_attachment returns photos the agent can view
  • send_message by iMessage, SMS/RCS or auto, text only, only with confirm: true; optional SMS/RCS retry when a blue bubble fails
  • Batch sends with a preview and approval token, and tapbacks
  • Follow-up and delivery-failure reports for outreach
  • Opt-in flags for deleting local messages, UI-driven edit and undo send, and read receipt fields

Pricing

Free software. It needs a Mac signed in to Messages, Node.js 18 to 25, Full Disk Access and Automation access.

How it compares to Linq

Linq is a managed API with its own numbers, webhooks, SDKs and iMessage features such as tapbacks and typing indicators, free for 20 contacts and $260 a month for Pro. This server is free and uses your own Apple ID and can send tapbacks, but it has no webhooks or REST API, sends text only and does not send typing indicators or effects.

Best for

People doing outreach from their own number who want an agent to track replies.
