Apple Messages MCP is one of eleven MIT-licensed MCP servers in Apple MCPs by Jonathan R. Reed (github.com/JonathanRReed/Apple-MCPs). It runs on your Mac, reads history from the Messages database and sends through Messages.app automation. It ships as a standalone server (uvx apple-messages-mcp) and inside the unified Apple-Tools-MCP server, which also covers Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Contacts and other apps. The latest release is v1.1.3 (October 2026).
Free, open-source software. It needs a Mac signed in to Messages and Python 3.11 or later. SMS and RCS also need an iPhone on the same account.
Linq is a managed API with its own phone numbers, webhooks, SDKs and iMessage features such as tapbacks, typing indicators and effects, with a free Hobby plan (20 contacts) and Pro from $260 a month. Apple Messages MCP is free and runs under your own Apple ID, but it has no webhooks or REST API, cannot send tapbacks, typing indicators or read receipts, and is reached only from MCP clients on the same Mac.
Individuals who want an AI assistant such as Claude or Codex to read and send their own Messages on their Mac.
Apple Messages MCP supports 21 of the 77 features compared on Linq Alternatives.
