Novu

Open-source notification infrastructure whose Novu Connect puts AI agents on Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, Telegram, email, web chat and iMessage through Sendblue.

Overview

Novu is open-source notification infrastructure (novuhq/novu, open core: MIT plus a commercial enterprise folder). Novu Notify sends product notifications, including SMS through providers such as Twilio. Novu Connect gives an existing AI agent two-way conversations on Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, email, web chat and iMessage. Novu supplies no phone lines: iMessage runs through your own Sendblue account, and the source code also has a Photon iMessage provider. SMS is a notification channel, not a Connect conversation channel.

Key features

  • One agent handler for every channel
  • Typing indicators, buttons and edits in place
  • In-conversation approval of agent actions and MCP tool calls
  • Adapters for the Vercel AI SDK, LangChain, Mastra and Claude managed agents
  • A CLI (npx novu connect) and an MCP server
  • SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA listed on the homepage

Pricing

Free with 10,000 workflow runs a month, Pro $30 a month, Team $250 a month, Enterprise custom with a HIPAA BAA, SSO and self-hosting.

How it compares to Linq

Novu is a routing layer: it needs a Sendblue account for iMessage and a provider such as Twilio for SMS, while Linq supplies its own iMessage, RCS and SMS lines. Novu has no RCS. It covers Slack, Teams, Telegram and email, which Linq does not. Both report SOC 2 Type II and publish an MCP server.

Best for

Teams with an existing AI agent that want it on chat apps, email and WhatsApp, with iMessage through a provider they bring.
